Apple vs. Windows – One of the greatest wars that the tech world has ever witnessed. It would not be an understatement to say that it is close to impossible to see something of this kind in the future. In this article, we will discuss the differences and compare between the two products offered by the tech giants.
The Operating System
The Operating System used by Apple is OS X which is now called the Mac OS. It is considered to be more stable and safe than windows. The main reason is that Apple produces both hardware and software. Hence they have better control over it when compared to Windows which offers only software. There are a lot of PC manufacturers who produce hardware that runs on Windows.
Even though Windows is the most preferred choice when it comes to desktop users, it is not as safe as the Mac. It is because of the popularity of the Windows that there are many hackers who are familiar with the working procedures and hence can hack the systems easily. Maybe when Mac gains more users, they will also face the same situation.
One of the main differences between PC and Mac is the user interface. Even though both use GUI they are different in many ways. When it comes to this particular criterion, there is no competition because it is all about the user’s perspective. Some might be comfortable with a PC, and some might feel comfortable with Mac. Each interface has its own advantages. For example, the Mac OS X has Launch Pad, hot corners, and dock options. The Windows has a metro interface, live tiles and so on.
From the very beginning, Mac has clearly had the upper hand when it comes to security. In the late 90s and mid-2000s, the PCs were literally flooded with adware, malware, and viruses. Most of the PCs were compromised. But the situation has changed as Windows has definitely upped their game. They are comparatively safer. But they still have a long way to go when it comes to security.
The predominant population is very much aware of the use of Task Manager. At the same, not many are even familiar with how to open a task manager on mac. At times when the program does not respond or when a particular application stops working, the task manager is the one that comes for the rescue. It is used to stop applications and continue with the work. In Mac OS the task manager is referred to as the Activity Monitor. Even though both are predominantly used to end a running program, you can also view the usage of the CPU, energy impact on application and a lot more. In PC you can access the task manager by pressing the key combinations Control+Alt+Delete. In Mac, you can launch the Activity Monitor by selecting Applications, and then selecting utility options and clicking Activity Monitor option.
When it comes to global market share PCs clearly wins the race with 56%. Mac holds a market share of 10.3%. The market share of PC includes brands like Dell, Lenovo, HP, Acer, Toshiba and a lot more. When it comes to the Operating System sector Windows clearly has the worldwide dominance when compared to any other player in the competition.
